We’ve not killed it – this is good!

Day 48 – MacArthur Glen

MacArthur Glen, originally uploaded by Donna C Green.

I despise shopping, but when you absolutely have to do it, MacArthur Glen at opening time on a Sunday isn’t the worst experience.

The roof is amazing and this photo doesn’t actually do it justice … These metal sculptures suspended from the top of the dome slowly rotate and go round in a circle, and sprays of water go everywhere. It’s exceedingly hypnotic and standing gawping at that for a while is a good way to brace yourself for the hell that is shopping!

cameraphone, and edited in Picnik

First barbecue of the year …

Day 46 – Edinburgh Park

Edinburh Park, originally uploaded by Donna C Green.

Okay, this is a bit weird I know. It reminds me of something by Escher, in a way… Taken by the lochans in Edinburgh Park, and tinkered all to hell with in Picnik.

Day 45 – The Braids Road, Edinburgh

The Braids Road, originally uploaded by Donna C Green.

More gothicky horrory type stuff. Having this pillar dead upright in the centre of the shot just looked staid and boring, so tilting it and giving it the holga-ish treatment in Picnik improved things somewhat. It jumps out at you more now!

Salmaibh Dhaibhidh – Psalms of David
This is the only bible I’d ever have in the house: my grandfather’s. Inside the front cover he’s written his name and “Lional Schoolhouse, 1925″. Funny, he wrote these details, even in his name, in English. A definite sign of the times.

It’s a battered old thing this, and the Gaelic is very odd. Full of technical religious words I don’t understand. Full of “a Thighearna”s (oh lord) which I do understand – and remember, hmmm.

I don’t understand why so many apparently random words are italicised either. This I will have to find out, I think …

Taken with the cameraphone and sepia’d/vignetted in Picnik.

Day 43 – Edinburgh Park

A wee walk from the car park at Edinburgh Park train station to the office on your exclusion day does no harm. And even though it was so bright I could hardly see the screen of my phone, I was quite pleased with the way this came out.

A wee spot of lomo’ing in Picnik and you have a shot with a strong perspective and muted colours.

Day 42 – Grain

Grain, originally uploaded by Donna C Green.

A desperation shot which didn’t turn out too horrendously I guess. I like the grain of the wood and desaturating and sharpening it seemed to work okay. That prime f1/4 50mm lens is great for stuff like this – so glad I got it.
